Murraya paniculata, commonly known as Orange Jasmine, madhu kamini is a small, evergreen shrub or tree prized for its fragrant, white flowers and ornamental foliage. It is often grown as a hedge, in containers, or as an indoor plant.

1. Seed Selection
  • Choose fresh seeds or healthy young plants from a reliable nursery.
  • Look for seeds that are plump and free from damage or signs of disease.
2. Planting Time
  • Plant Orange Jasmine in the spring or early summer, when temperatures are warm and stable.
  • In tropical regions, Murraya paniculata can be planted year-round as long as conditions are warm.
3. Soil Preparation
  • Murraya prefers well-draining, slightly acidic soil. A mix of garden soil and compost or well-rotted manure will promote healthy growth.
  • Ideal soil pH is between 5.5 and 6.5.
4. Seed Sowing / Planting
  • If planting from seeds, sow them about ½ inch deep in seed-starting trays or pots.
  • For young plants, dig a hole as deep as the root ball and twice as wide, then plant at the same depth it was growing in the container.
5. Germination / Establishment
  • Seeds will germinate in 3-6 weeks if kept in warm (70-85°F / 21-29°C), moist conditions.
  • Ensure the seedlings or young plants receive bright, indirect light as they establish.
6. Watering and Care
  • Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Murraya paniculata prefers consistent moisture, but the soil should dry slightly between waterings.
  • Mulch around the base of the plant to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
7. Fertilizing
  • Feed the plant with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer (NPK 10-10-10) every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
  • Alternatively, organic compost or well-rotted manure can be used to enrich the soil.
8. Pests and Diseases
  • Monitor for common pests like aphids, spider mites, and scale insects. Neem oil or insecticidal soap can help control infestations.
  • Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases like powdery mildew or root rot.
9. Pruning and Maintenance
  • Prune lightly after flowering to maintain the shape and encourage bushy growth.
  • Remove dead or damaged branches to promote healthy new growth.
10. Seed Saving / Propagation
  • Collect seeds from mature fruits in late summer or early fall. Remove the flesh, rinse the seeds, and allow them to dry.
  • Propagation can also be done by taking semi-hardwood cuttings in late summer.
Conclusion

Murraya paniculata is a versatile and aromatic plant that thrives with regular care. Its fragrant blooms, attractive foliage, and ability to be shaped into hedges or container plants make it a beautiful addition to any garden or indoor space. By providing adequate moisture, balanced fertilization, and proper pruning, you can enjoy the beauty and fragrance of Orange Jasmine for years to come.

** Plants photos are for representation purpose only. We will make best efforts to send the plants as in photos itself.  There may be small white dots on the plant, as these plants cared in nursery using the hard water and pesticide spray. However these will eventually disappear as you take care and clean the leaves. Trust us, we want to give you the best
