Schefflera Variegated (Umbrella Tree)
This product is available for shipping only in Bangalore
Schefflera species are wonderfully tropical plants. The larger schefflera (sometimes called the umbrella plant) features long, shiny, oval green leaves that droop gracefully from a central stalk. A mature schefflera might have 12 or 16 leaflets from a single stalk, while an immature schefflera is more likely to have 4 or 6. Schefflera arboricola (sometimes called dwarf schefflera) feature smaller, glossy leaves, sometimes with creamy variegation. Schefflera will thrive alongside your other tropical plants. Sadly, schefflera is unlikely to bloom inside, so you’ll miss the long, red tentacles that pass for flowers.

Schefflera Variegated, commonly known as the Variegated Umbrella Plant, is an attractive indoor foliage plant noted for its bright green and creamy yellow patterned leaves. It is popular for homes and offices due to its lush look and low maintenance.
1. Plant description
• A compact, bushy shrub with palmately compound leaves resembling the spokes of an umbrella.
• The variegated variety has green leaves splashed with creamy yellow or ivory.
• Typically grows up to 3–6 feet indoors but can reach over 10 feet outdoors in warm climates.
• Has a graceful, upright growth habit with multiple stems.
2. Ideal growing conditions
• Prefers bright, indirect light for vibrant variegation.
• Can tolerate lower light but may lose variegation in too much shade.
• Thrives in warm temperatures between 15–29°C (60–85°F).
• Keep away from cold drafts and direct air from ACs.
3. Soil requirements
• Requires well-draining soil to prevent root rot.
• A mix of garden soil, cocopeat, and perlite or sand works well.
• Slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0) is ideal.
4. Watering
• Water when the top inch of soil is dry to the touch.
• Ensure good drainage and avoid overwatering.
• Reduce watering in cooler months when growth slows.
• Avoid letting the plant sit in water-filled saucers.
5. Fertilizing
• Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer.
• Avoid fertilizing in winter.
• Yellow leaves can be a sign of overfeeding or poor drainage.
6. Pests and diseases
• Susceptible to spider mites, aphids, and scale insects.
• Regularly inspect the undersides of leaves and wipe with neem oil solution if needed.
• Avoid waterlogging to prevent fungal root rot.
7. Pruning and maintenance
• Prune to shape and control size, especially in compact indoor spaces.
• Pinch off the growing tips to encourage bushier growth.
• Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and enhance photosynthesis.
8. Propagation
• Easily propagated from stem cuttings.
• Take 4–6 inch cuttings and root them in water or a moist potting mix.
• Place cuttings in a warm, bright location until rooted.
• Best done during the growing season (spring to early autumn).
Conclusion
Schefflera Variegated is a vibrant, eye-catching plant that adds color and tropical flair to any space. Its adaptability and tolerance of indoor conditions make it a favorite for both new and experienced plant owners. With occasional pruning and proper watering, it remains healthy and decorative year-round.
