The Zamia Black , also known as the Black ZZ Plant, is a striking, low-maintenance houseplant prized for its dramatic, dark foliage. It is a cultivar of Zamioculcas zamiifolia, the same species as the standard green ZZ Plant, but it features glossy, near-black leaves that mature from bright lime green to deep purple-black.

🌿 Zamia Black Raven (Black ZZ) Plant Overview

  • Botanical Name: Zamioculcas zamiifolia ‘Raven’

  • Common Names: Black ZZ Plant, Raven ZZ Plant, Zamia Black Raven

  • Family: Araceae

  • Native To: Eastern Africa

  • Growth Habit: Upright, clumping foliage with thick stems and waxy, feather-like leaves

  • Mature Height: 2–3 feet indoors

  • Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested

🌱 Care Guide

1. Light Requirements

  • Prefers bright, indirect light, but tolerates low light well.

  • Avoid direct sun as it can scorch the leaves.

2. Watering

  • Low water needs. Water only when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry.

  • Overwatering is the main killer—the rhizomes can rot if kept too wet.

3. Soil

  • Use a well-draining potting mix, such as one for cacti or succulents.

  • A mix of potting soil, perlite, and sand works well.

4. Humidity & Temperature

  • Thrives in average room humidity and temperatures between 18°C–26°C (65°F–78°F).

  • Avoid cold drafts or temps below 10°C (50°F).

5. Fertilization

  • Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–3 months during the growing season (spring to early autumn).

  • Do not fertilize in winter.

6. Repotting

  • Repot only every 2–3 years or when the roots outgrow the pot.

  • Use a slightly larger pot with good drainage.

7. Pests & Problems

  • Generally pest-free but occasionally affected by mealybugs or spider mites.

  • Yellowing leaves often indicate overwatering.

🌟 Special Features

  • Air Purifying: Removes toxins like xylene and toluene.

  • Drought Tolerant: Stores water in rhizomes.

  • Low Maintenance: Perfect for busy or beginner plant owners.

🪴 Styling Tip

Pair the Black ZZ with light-colored or metallic planters to highlight its dark, moody foliage—ideal for modern, minimalist, or industrial interiors.

** Plants photos are for representation purpose only. We will make best efforts to send the plants as in photos itself.  There may be small white dots on the plant, as these plants cared in nursery using the hard water and pesticide spray. However these will eventually disappear as you take care and clean the leaves. Trust us, we want to give you the best
